12 Well Plate for Cell Culture and High-Resolution Microscopy
The µ-Plate 12 Well is a black 12 well plate for cell culture and high-resolution microscopy. Each well provides a volume of 3 ml and a growth area of 3.6 cm², with a 21.5 mm diameter and an optically clear #1.5 ibidi Polymer Coverslip or #1.5H Glass Coverslip Bottom. The plate supports parallel cell culture, immunofluorescence, live cell imaging, transfection assays, and automated image-based analysis in an ANSI/SLAS format.
Parallel Cell Culture in 12 Round Wells
The twelve independent wells are arranged in a standard A–C and 1–4 layout. Each well provides a culture area and an integrated coverslip bottom for direct microscopy without transferring cells to separate coverslips. The plate format supports parallel comparison of treatments, controls, staining conditions, and biological replicates.
Immunofluorescence and Protein Localization
The µ-Plate 12 Well supports immunofluorescence workflows directly in the plate. Cell cultivation, fixation, staining, washing, and microscopy can be performed in the same wells. The coverslip bottom provides direct optical access for fluorescence imaging, while the 12 well format enables parallel comparison of antibodies, treatments, staining conditions, and biological replicates.

Widefield fluorescence image of Rat1 (rat fibroblast cells) cultivated in the µ-Plate 12 Well ibiTreat. After fixation, the cells were stained with phalloidin-Alexa488 (actin, green) and DAPI (nuclei, blue). The image was acquired on a Nikon microscope with a 20x (left) and a 60x (right) objective lens.

Live Cell Imaging and Time-Lapse Studies
Live cell imaging in the µ-Plate 12 Well enables longitudinal observation of cell morphology, proliferation, reporter expression, and cellular responses across multiple experimental conditions. The thin coverslip bottom supports direct imaging on inverted microscopes using brightfield, phase contrast, widefield fluorescence, and confocal microscopy. A compatible ibidi Stage Top Incubator provides temperature, CO2, and humidity control for long-term time-lapse experiments.
Cell-Based Assays and Automated Imaging
The ANSI/SLAS plate format supports integration into compatible automated microscopy and liquid-handling workflows. The 12 well format provides sufficient culture area for parallel cell-based assays, including morphology and proliferation analysis, transfection assays, cytotoxicity assays, and treatment comparisons. Automated high-content screening and image-based analysis can be combined with fluorescence scanners and compatible plate readers. The #1.5H Glass Coverslip Bottom is particularly suited for glass-dependent techniques such as TIRF and super-resolution microscopy.

How Does the µ-Plate 12 Well Work?
The µ-Plate 12 Well combines twelve independent wells with a permanently integrated, thin #1.5 ibidi Polymer Coverslip or #1.5H Glass Coverslip Bottom. Cells are cultured and imaged on the same optical surface, allowing direct microscopy from below without transferring samples to separate coverslips.
The ibiTreat surface is tissue culture-treated to support adhesion and growth of many adherent cell types. The Untreated Polymer version provides a hydrophobic surface that can be coated according to the requirements of the cell model. The Glass Bottom version provides a high-precision glass imaging surface for microscopy workflows requiring glass.
