Microscope objective heater for a defined and stable temperature of the sample during long-term high-resolution live cell imaging
- Prevents cooling of the sample by thermal transfer during live cell microscopy using oil immersion, water immersion, and high magnification objectives
- Fits microscope objectives with a diameter of ∼ 2.5–4.5 cm
- Compatible with all ibidi systems with the Temperature Controller – Silver Line
Compatible Systems:
- ibidi Temperature Controller – Silver Line
- ibidi Heating System Slide/Dish – Silver Line
- ibidi Heating System 4 Slides – Silver Line
- ibidi Stage Top Incubator Slide/Dish, CO2/O2 – Silver Line
- ibidi Stage Top Incubator Slide/Dish, CO2 – Silver Line
Applications
The Objective Heater Universal – Silver Line extends the ibidi Stage Top Incubators – Silver Line to prevent cooling of the sample by thermal transfer during high-resolution microscopy. An objective heater is recommended when the objective is in close proximity to the sample (e.g., when using oil immersion objectives, water immersion objectives, or high magnification objectives).
The Objective Heater Universal – Silver Line combined with the ibidi Stage Top Incubators – Silver Line is ideal for live cell imaging experiments that require physiologic conditions on the microscope.
A complete Stage Top Incubator, consisting of the ibidi Gas Incubation System and the ibidi Heating System, creates precisely controlled essential parameters such as temperature, humidity, and CO2/O2 levels on the microscope to get reproducible results of, for example:
- Chemotaxis assays
- Angiogenesis assays
- Cell migration assays
- Wound healing assays
- Proliferation assays
- Cell culture under flow assays
- Hypoxia experiments
The ibidi Stage Top Incubator is optimized for high-resolution imaging applications that require extra focus stability, for example:
- TIRF
- Fluorescence microscopy
- Confocal microscopy
- DIC microscopy
- Oil immersion microscopy
- Water immersion microscopy
The Objective Heater Universal – Silver Line supports high resolution live cell imaging by reducing temperature gradients between the sample and the objective.

The Principle of the Objective Heater Universal – Silver Line
The Objective Heater Universal – Silver Line extends the ibidi Stage Top Incubator Slide/Dish – Silver Line to keep the sample on the stage at the desired temperature. When the microscope objective is not heated, and in close approximation to the sample (e.g., water or oil immersion objectives), thermal transfer from the objective to the sample might have a cooling effect. Adequate heating of the objective by the Objective Heater prevents cooling of the sample, enabling long-term high-resolution imaging of living cells.
